2021. Well, my New Year’s Party lobster was act

2021. Well, my New Year’s Party lobster was actually circa 2017. My sister just sent me the pic I took way back when. Yes I made a mini party hat for a lobster. And yes, I bought itty bitty red solo cups for our lobster. The pic still makes me laugh today. Guys, life is hard enough. Learn to laugh at yourself. We can’t wait for happiness to come to us. Sometimes you have to create your own. After all, happiness is often about perspective rather than just circumstance isn’t it? If you’re reading this, you have a lot to be grateful for regardless of your circumstances. Being in the medical field I have perspective slapping me in the face on a daily basis. Sure, I have a lot of days where I feel beat into the ground like everyone else. Let me give you an example of that perspective slap. Yesterday I had one of my sweet elderly patients come into my pharmacy for the sole reason of bringing my technician and I a box of chocolate. He’s fragile and I’ve been watching his decline over the last couple years. We joke that he’s our “sugar daddy” to him. I’m crushed that I can’t just reach through the plexiglass and give him a big hug like I used to. We are living in different times right now. But this kind soul, who struggles to even walk, thought so much of us, to bring us candy. I teared up just thinking about the fact that I don’t know how much longer he will be with us. It may be a new year but make no mistake, it’s going to be a bumpy ride for quite sometime. Be safe, don’t be reckless. Wash your damn hands frequently. Be humble, be kind. Be generous if you are able to be. Appreciate life, appreciate your friends and those who bring you joy. ~Melissa ♥️

Bookmark this post as a reminder when you need it for reference as I think there’s a lot of information you’ll find helpful. I used a chateaubriand from @omahasteaks to create this beauty in my @hestanhome range. As we bid adieu to 2020, I wish only the best for my friends and followers. As tumultuous as this year was, I think we all learned a lot about ourselves and others. I don’t know anyone who hasn’t struggled in some manner or another honestly. My hope is that we move into a new year with new hope and new ambition. May we cherish our friends who stuck with us through the insanity. May we be more kind, more understanding and have more empathy to those around us. Lend a hand or an ear to others when they need it. The hardships are far from over but I think we are better prepared as a Soceity to persevere. Sending you all love and light, and wishing you a most wonderful New Year.

My beef Wellington came out lovely and I couldn’t be more happy! I made it with a 3lb Private Reserve chateaubriand from @omahasteaks. I always considered making Wellington a labor of love because the truth of the matter is, to do it properly, it does require time and a bit of patience. I baked this Wellington in my @hestanhome range. Personally I prefer a two day approach when making it. I do all the steps except the pastry the day before. On the day of, cover it with pastry and cook. If you’re interesting in learning my process, let me know in the comments. The clawww the clawww! I went freezer diving and found buried treasure! I steamed these Alaskan King Crab legs with Old Bay in a giant stock pot on my @hestanhome range. Because of my crazy work schedule and that 44 inches of snow dumped on my town two nights ago, I had no decent food defrosted and no one was surely going to deliver. Hell a lot of areas are still waiting to be dug out. My boy and I had a hankering for seafood and boy was he happy. I sure wasn’t complaining either. Oh and the burners on this stove are incredible. 23,000 BTU on that burner had that water boiling in the blink of an eye. As a side note: if you’re a big crab eater, I like to use cut resistant gloves if I’m cracking really spiny sharp legs. They are around only $10 a pair and it’s the only reason I own them honestly! As for the legs, they were I had left over from @salmonandsable. I honestly thought we ate them all. Luckily I had them double bagged and I was thrilled they weren’t freezer burnt. Late last night I cooked a great bone-in strip steak on cast iron hot & fast on my @hestanhome range for my son. It was really nice you know? He was looking forward to it. Adam is always so appreciative when I cook for him. A thank you and a hug goes a long way when you’re the parent of the house working hard. Sometime after midnight I sat down and posted my pic in a group I’m fond of. I proceeded to let lectured my an arrogant individual who claimed basically if you aren’t cooking sous-vide, then your steak will never be as good. The criticism didn’t stop there. Anyone with a shred of decency knows that’s just not true. Am I here to knock sous-vide, absolutely not. I own multiple units and have used them in the past. There is a time and place for everything. The ironic part of this whole ordeal was at the end of my post I wrote “be kind, stay safe”. My point is, you cook your food by whichever method you prefer. That doesn’t mean that someone else’s is wrong. I don’t understand some people. When did soceity start being so crass. When did it become acceptable to be insulting to others for the mere sake of being evil? In a time where we should be even more kind to one another, people are behaving even worse. I know there are a lot of good people out there and thank goodness. I’m a realist. We live in a world where people hide behind the cover of social media just to run their mouths. It’s evident on any platform you’re part of. Criticism will always exist in life. Big egos will make some run their mouths when they really should be taping them shut. I’m only saying this in hope that some will look in the mirror and realize they can be a better person. Sure, past behavior can help us predict future behavior. It’s my true hope however that some can overcome and grow and become better humans. My gosh now more than ever, we need people to be better humans. #HestanPartner #BeKind #hestan

One does not simply cut up a pink pineapple and eat it without first appreciating it’s true beauty first! I was gifted this @pinkglowpineapple from @melissasproduce to enjoy. It was labor of love for over 16 years for @delmonte to create and grow these pink pineapples in Costa Rica. Besides the color, it is also less sour than a traditional pineapple, juicier and sweeter in taste! I wanted people to see how stunning the color is and chose to create a hybrid pineapple so people could appreciate the difference between the Pinkglow and a traditional pineapple. Fresh Del Monte Produce is currently planting the Pinkglow pineapple crowns in an effort to increase the volume of Pinkglow pineapple crops and reduce waste.
