It’s unfortunately that time of year in NY where everything freezes over. These are the last of my tomatillos that were somehow okay after the other evening. Having said that, anyone ever can their own salsa verde? I don’t know what else to do with all of these! Maybe an enchilada sauce? 🤔

Proof that even carnivores eat their fruits and veggies. Some produce I picked up locally plus some seasonal produce from @melissasproduce. By the way, those Japanese yams are the bomb. These smaller varieties and the larger Japanese Murasaki sweet potatoes are like a cross between a potato and sweet potato. When fried, they are crunchy and spectacular. When roasted, sweet and dreamy. Now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go grill a steak to go with my new bounty.

Firecracker shrimp and blistered shishito peppers

Firecracker shrimp and blistered shishito peppers on the grill is on the menu today! I love traditional firecracker shrimp which are spicy and sweet, but a little sinful considering they are fried. In this surprising twist, I make a much healthier version using @sparklingice Orange Mango for the base of my sauce. Check it out! Ingredients:
1 1/2- 2 lbs shelled and deveined shrimp (if you prefer leave tails attached)
1 cup Sparkling Ice Orange Mango
1/2 cup honey
1 tsp minced garlic or 1 clove or may substitute 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder
2 tbsp (plus 1 tsp olive oil if using minced garlic only)
1 tsp soy sauce
1/4 tsp crushed red pepper flakes (or more to increase heat level)
1 tbsp cornstarch mixed with 1 tbsp cold water (mix thoroughly into slurry)
2 tbsp sesame seeds (optional) Directions:
1. Set up grill for 2 zone cooking (1 side direct/ 1 side indirect heat)
2. Preheat grill to medium high heat
3. Heat olive oil in small skillet or saucepan. Cook garlic just until fragrant being careful not to burn. If using powder mix in next step.
4. Add Sparkling Ice Orange Mango, honey, soy sauce and crushed red pepper to skillet (and garlic powder if using). Whisk together. Let come to a boil.
5. Add cornstarch slurry and whisk until all incorporate. Cook until starting to thicken. When thickened enough to coat the back of a spoon, remove from heat.
6. Toss shrimp in olive oil, grill on direct heat a couple minutes each side (time depends on size). As they are finished, move to indirect side. Bring skillet of sauce back to the grill. Heat for a minute then add shrimp and toss. Garnish shrimp with sesame seeds (optional).
7. Toss peppers in 1 tbsp olive oil, grill over direct heat until blistered on all sides. Serve immediately with shrimp. #sparklingicepartner #sparklingicelife
